Panelists are an integral part of the Queens Arts Fund grant-making process. Panelists are artists, cultural workers, educators, and community leaders who are familiar with Queens and care about the people who live there. Panelists carefully review and pre-score QAF applications and participate in a virtual panel review meeting.
Panel nominees should be reliable individuals with a commitment to the arts, knowledge of Queens communities, and expertise in an artistic discipline, arts administration, and/or community arts programming. We encourage people in the early stages of their professional or creative careers to serve on panels as a professional development experience. Priority is given to panelists who are residents of Queens or who work within the borough.
NYFA assembles diverse panels, considering gender, ethnicity, cultural background, and geographic location. Panelists’ names are kept confidential until the awards are announced.
2024 QAF Grant applicants are eligible to serve as 2024 panelists; their applications will be reviewed in a panel session separate from the panel on which they serve.
Panelist Responsibilities:
- Attend a virtual Panel Orientation meeting prior to receiving applications for review
- Review and score up to 40 applications at your own pace within a three-week period of time
- Participate in a virtual day-long Panel Discussion meeting to select recipients and recommend funding
- Availability from December 2023 to beginning of February 2024
Panelists receive an honorarium of $200, and public recognition for their panel participation at the time of recipient announcement.
NOMINATION DEADLINE: November 14, 2022 11:59PM EST
*Early submissions are encouraged. If all spots are not filled by the deadline, nominations will remain open. NYFA staff will reach out to submitted nominees on a rolling basis, no later than December 2023 if they are selected for a panel. Submitting a nomination form does not guarantee participation as a panelist.
